GROUPS AND NEXT STEPS DIRECTOR

Vision of the Position

Calvary Assembly is opening up a position for communications director. We are looking for someone who is passionate about clear and compelling communications and helping people far from God come to know Him. We desire someone who is a big picture thinker – that can dream big dreams – and also can put on paper a clear plan with plenty of time to get projects done. The ideal candidate has the eye of an artist and the mind of a strategist. It’s important to us that our church knows our vision and our values and that is our guiding light for our communications.

About the Company

Calvary Assembly is a growing church that creates a safe place for people to take risks in the faith, develop authentic and meaningful relationships, and discover the future that God intends for them. Our team works really hard and laughs way too much.

About the Role

This role is primarily about investing in and developing our Groups ministry. Our groups are different than your local book club. Our groups are designed to challenge, encourage, and grow every person as they explore faith in Jesus. Our dream is that everyone could be a part of a micro-community where they can participate in meaningful, spiritual conversations that help them wrestle through life’s hard questions and challenges. Too many people are walking through life alone and without the opportunity for meaningful, faith-challenging dialogue. Our goal is to create space for people to have real conversations and to find the right person to lead us forward!

We also hope this candidate can help new and existing people find their path at Calvary Assembly. Walking into a church can be overwhelming and intimidating. We want to create a welcoming environment and help people know what to do to actually become connected, so their faith can actually grow. We aren’t a come-and-watch-us-do-ministry church. Each one of us is part of the Church and each one of us can make a difference in the greater Rochester area. This candidate (maybe you?) will have a heart and a strategy to help us accomplish this.

About the Ideal Applicant

Primarily, we are looking for someone who is spiritually mature, relational, and a galvanizer of people.

Must haves:

  • Aligned and passionate about the mission of Calvary Assembly
  • Proven ability to recruit and develop top leaders to serve
  • Strong people skills
  • Strong knowledge of the Bible and theology
  • Hungry and ambitious to help people in Rochester grow their faith
  • Enjoys investing in leaders in 1:1 settings (and has something valuable to bring)
  • Enjoys empowering others to ownership and responsibility of the success of the ministry
  • Ability to have hard conversations in a gracious and clear manner
  • Ability to develop a leadership team
  • Ability and desire to create and cast vision for small group communities, both seasonally and overall

Nice to haves

  • Degree or further education in a related field

  • Significant experience in working on staff or as a key volunteer for a church

  • Able to analyze engagement trends (quantitative and qualitative data) with groups and able to help make strategic shifts over time

  • Ability to organize and write (with collaboration with the pastors) a daily devotional that can be paired with our Sunday messages.

Personal Characteristics

  • Love Jesus and follow Jesus
  • Attend Calvary Assembly as their home church
  • Embrace a high biblical standard of personal conduct and lifestyle (integrity)
  • Agree to and adhere to the church’s statement of faith and leadership commitment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to advocate for what they think is best
  • Flexibility in implementing ideas, even when they are not their first choice
Contributes to a healthy and enjoyable workplace environment

Details of the Position

  • This position is ~20 hours per week (with potential for future growth!)

  • Work schedule would be something like: 4-5 hours on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Most hours would be during the daytime, some (planned) meetings would be during evenings or weekends.

  • Compensation is commensurate with experience.

How This Position Could Grow:

  • We see huge potential in growing ways for existing, new, and future Calvary attendees to not just get involved with groups, but find a clear pathway to grow their faith.

  • This can include them being baptized to go public with their faith or attending our exploring membership gathering to know how the church operates in mission.
It could be creating a gathering for new people to meet with our pastors and get connected. Maybe Pizza with the Pastors after church on a Sunday?

  • How do we help everyone discover what their gifts are – then find ways for them to use them in the church, their homes, and their workplace? How do we make that clear and compelling?

  • This position could oversee the process from when a new person first enters Calvary Assembly, all the way through seeing them grow and exercise their faith in community, in service, and in their personal relationship with Christ.

WHAT IS CALVARY ASSEMBLY LIKE?

Calvary Assembly is a safe place to find faith, friends, and your future. The church was founded in 1985 as a home church. When our current lead pastor, Pastor Bob, took over 21 years ago, there were 25 people; a small yet passionate community with big dreams. Through God’s faithfulness, our church has grown significantly in our influence in our community. We value serving our community and helping people find freedom in Jesus. We LOVE the people in our community and believe we are just getting started in being able to make an impact for the Gospel in Rochester, NY.

OUR HOME: ROCHESTER NY

Rochester, NY is home to a vibrant community with deep roots. The Eastman Kodak Company was the industry Rochester was built on, making ingenuity and creativity part of the heartbeat of our city.

To learn more about Rochester, check out the Explore Rochester instagram page, the Rochester Wiki Page. Seriously, read through our local history. It’s wild! While you’re at it, don’t forget to hit up some of our favorite local spots.

The best remote-work spot is definitely Leaf and Bean, located in the North Chili Plaza. From there, you’ve definitely got to check out our resturant scene — Good Luck, Lulu Taqueria, and Ferrari’s being among some of our team’s favorites.

SUNDAYS @Second!

Sundays are about growing in faith in Jesus. Students begin in the auditorium for worship and are released after about 20 minutes to head to our lower level. Here we connect with new friends and have a non-pressured faith conversation. The experience all together lasts about 65 minutes and we hope you leave encouraged and challenged in your spiritual journey.

The first Sunday of each month, students will stay in the auditorium for the message.

WEDNESDAYS @Second!

Wednesdays are the most exciting night of the week! Every week a powerful and relevant message from scripture is preached, and students are given a chance to respond to the nights message.  Wednesdays alternate between small group nights (where students and volunteers connect by playing, learning and praying together) and worship nights (where our student led band, EMBERS, lead songs of worship and praise to Jesus).

Our messages are based out of the Bible, which we believe to be God-breathed and useful for our lives today. On Wednesday nights, we learn from engaging teaching, worship with our student team, take time to pray together or individually, and reflect on how we can become closer with our God. If you have never come, we encourage you to check it out!

My name is Steven Nichols and I am the Youth Director at Calvary Assembly! I am absolutely thrilled to be in this position and to be given the chance to work with your children and help lead them to all that God has planned for them.

I live in a neighborhood in Gates where my wife, Moriah, and I purchased our first home. When I am not actively involved in our youth  ministry, I throughly enjoy reading and training in martial arts. Moriah is an extremely gifted vocalist and piano player and can make any song sound like a billboard hit. I cannot. When we go out on dates together we both enjoy exploring the surrounding area looking for a restaurant we have not tried yet, searching for the best food our city has to offer. But for us, the best day is a simple and quiet one.

Although I am still working full time as an electrician for my father’s company, I want you to know I am available for you, for your son or daughter, and to help encourage our students towards the unique calling God has for their life! Don’t hesitate to email, call, or text me. I am looking forward to getting to know you!

Come as you are. You don’t have to dress up or pretend like you have it all together. We will meet for 65 minutes and in that time we will sing some songs about God’s love, have an engaging teaching that will encourage and challenge you, and participate in prayer that inspires you.

A lot of our lives is spent doing the SAME things. After all, we have reoccurring responsibilities. Faithfulness is the term the Bible uses for this.

There comes a time when we are called to do the NEXT thing. This
is not a call to stop doing the regular things. Rather, it is a reminder that we don’t have to be limited by them. In fact, the
NEXT thing is possible because of faithfulness. You have faithfully prayed, served, and given generously. As a result our current facility is used three times on Sunday (and throughout the week) to connect people to - and help people grow in - God’s grace.

Every week we hear stories of people daring to hope again, finding freedom, and feeling loved and accepted. And if this was all God accomplished through us, we would be glad and grateful.

But with God there is always a NEXT. There are still individuals and families who have not been exposed to the grace of God. There are still people who have disconnected from faith and have not yet found their way back home. Since God is not done with them, He is not done with us.

Our mission is to provide a safe place for people to find authentic faith, risk real relationships and discover the future God has planned for them.

Our problem - we can’t provide a safe place if we are out of space.

Beginning on the first Sunday in October our church family will begin to take the NEXT step. We cannot do this alone. The faith and finances necessary for a project of this size will require each and every person to dare to pray bold prayers and boldly respond to God’s direction.

NEXT reminds us of God’s unfailing love and unwavering effort to reach each and every one.

NEXT reminds us that our dreams can be brighter than our memories.NEXT reminds us that the best is yet to come.
