**NEW**

Helpful for anyone who wants to grow their contemplative prayer life. Amazing list of diverse authors for each chapter.

**NEW**

The author is a dynamic speaker and author, with over thirty years of experience in the ministry of racial, ethnic, and gender reconciliation – This needs a solid leader able to navigate the topic well. 5 weeks of study are provided (but it could be creatively broken up to fill 7 weeks of study).

**NEW**

This Bible study helps us recognize God’s Word as an anchor in our ever-shifting cultural climate and as we study the small New Testament book, it will help us do the work of contending for faith in a world of unbelief.

**NEW**

Practical, relatable, applicable – the DVDs had a sense of humor that was disarming. This study has no homework. There are only 5 weeks of video and study – so, leaders could work with Amy in possibly talking about adding a couple of extra weeks using another marriage resource.

**NEW**

This fabulous visually appealing resource carries you through 5 mountain top Bible stories in Scripture, each symbolizing a time where there was a holy ground connection with God. (These can be broken down to fill our 8 week sessions).

**NEW**

Compelling resource with an invitation to the wonder, power, and mystery of prayer. It’s both practical and powerful. There are not questions in the book. (Questions for your group would need to be submitted to Amy AT LEAST 2 days prior to your small group). The homework for participants would simply be to read the chapters.

**NEW**

An immersion into the Lord’s prayer which ultimately helps us know God more deeply and impacts our relationships with others. (This has only 6 chapters, but 1 of these could be divided up to make it an 8 week study). Good questions provided.

**NEW**

A local to Rochester, this is a helpful study on worship. Great questions included.

Carolyn Carney offers a practical guide for those who want something more than “just another prayer meeting.” Drawing from decades of ministry experience, The Power of Group Prayer includes stories and practices for corporate prayer, reflection questions, and supplemental resources to help build powerful intercession groups.

If participants do 2 chapters/week, this would take a solid 9 WEEKS to complete. This book shows us how to live life to the fullest way that God intended. As this is a book and not a study, if you choose this resource you would need to create and submit questions for your group would need to be submitted to Amy AT LEAST 2 days prior to your small group. The homework for participants would simply be to read the chapters.

**NEW**

Our world needs to see the grace of God. What actually is it? How can we master the art of grace? This has a 6 week video add for each of the groups (about 18 min. each week). Amy has suggestions to build this group to move from 6 weeks to 8.

Pastor Dave Hertweck is the dynamic pastor of Trinity Assembly (near Syracuse, NY) who has blessed our church body for years by coming to dynamically guest preach. Broken perfectly for us into 8 studies, this study will shape our views on the word of God and the Holy Spirit in an incredibly relevant way.

This is an amazing resource, but it is a LONG book with 15 chapters. There are a few options if you choose this resource. You could do half of the book during this study and then let the rest be for participants’ devotion time – or you could save the second half for a study in the future. As it is a book, you would have to create your own questions. (Questions for your group would need to be submitted to Amy AT LEAST 2 days prior to your small group). The homework for participants would simply be to read the chapters.

A valuable resource for those that want to recover from wounds of the past and grow more into the image of God. If you struggle with anxiety, loneliness, feelings of inadequacy or burnout this could be a helpful study for you. As this is a book and not a study, if you choose this resource you would need to create and submit questions for your group and need to be submit these to Amy AT LEAST 2 days prior to your small group.

“My sheep hear my voice.” Don’t we all want to hear God’s voice better? This study, which is broken up to fit into our 8 weeks perfectly, helps us to better understand the Holy Spirit’s role and how to differentiate His voice from imposters’ voices. (A video to accompany the study is available).

This study is set up as an interactive journey to use Biblical truth to recognize what is holding you back and equip you to confront that head on to help you be your best self with the purpose that God created you for.

This is a great resource created to help people facing impossible pain both grieve & find incredible power. Whether you are currently facing adversity or want to prepare for inevitable hardship, this study can benefit you. A challenge is that there are 12 chapters in this book. There would need to be some creativity with this study to either finish it within the group context or allow people to finish it in their devotional time at home. Also, there are not questions in the book. (Questions for your group would need to be created & submitted to Amy AT LEAST 2 days prior to your small group).

⚠PAUSED⚠

This is a great video-based study for those who desire to grow in discipleship and maturity. In church people tell you to either listen to your emotions or stuff them – but this study helps you to process them in a way that is different. It helps you process them in a way that helps you be a better follower of Jesus.

This is an amazing study guide resource for those that have been wounded deeply and who want to heal from deep suffering while also wrestling with what forgiveness looks like, if that’s even possible, and what the implications of that forgiveness has to mean. Due to our 8 week model, most weeks would cover 2 chapters, but there isn’t homework except excerpt for reading and that feels manageable.

In this video enhanced study, we are inspired and equipped to transform our emotions, our outlook and our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts – submitting them to Christ. In doing so, the promises and goodness of God flood our lives in amazing ways. This fits well in our fall groups timeline.

This is a great study that helps us to learn to pray using God’s word. It is NOT a video study (as many Beth Moore studies are), but there are plenty of solid questions to get your group engaged with God’s word and experience more of His presence and His peace.

An accessible, easy to read, inspiring book with stories that remind us that love is an action. It is motivational. It is definitely not a typical small group resource but it does put action on simple faith making it real and still challenging.

Hebrews 11 still can challenge and encourage us today. This study examines the lives of Rahab, Enoch, Gideon, Sarah, and many more who walked with faith, and ultimately will push us closer to the one who deserves our trust. With an intro week, this easily fills 7 weeks of our fall timeline.

This book encourages parents to create a home environment where children experience security, significance, and strength, helping them develop a healthy identity and a genuine faith rather than merely outward compliance. The book emphasizes balancing truth with grace, allowing children to learn from mistakes, and building strong relationships that prepare them to navigate life with wisdom, responsibility, and dependence on God.

How should our Bible shape our view on generosity? And how is that both joy producing and life giving? This is an awesome resource that addresses a necessary part of our discipleship. The author breaks this up into a 4 week study, but it really could easily be stretched to fill our 8 week group sessions.

Addressing the important topic of how to share our faith in a compelling way in a time that is post-Christian, post-modern, and post solid truth. How can we do this in a way that is loving, non-combative, and would bring Christ glory?

For those of you who were fans of “Rooted” this is a great study that is very similarly organized, but focuses on the important areas of God’s design for work and his design for family.

This study guide builds on Luke’s Gospel, laying out the continuing work and teaching of the risen and ascended Jesus in the power of the Spirit. It is a great resource; however the challenge is that there are 24 studies. In light of our 8 week time table, you would need to combine 3 studies/week.

This resource shows us the relevance of the OT book Nehemiah. It challenges us to examine what needs rebuilding in own lives. This book helps anyone who has experienced brokenness to learn the tools for restoration and moving forward in joy. (Questions for your group would need to be submitted to Amy AT LEAST 2 days prior to your small group).

A worthwhile examination of the Biblical story of the exodus of the Israelites. It is a 10 week study, so if this book is chosen, we would have to extend the group 2 weeks (it would go until about Thanksgiving). The themes of exodus shape our understanding of the whole Bible as they reverberate throughout all of Scripture.

After an early set-up of the previous chapters of Romans, this study does a deep-dive on Romans chapter 8 in a powerful verse-by-verse study helping us to see life changing truths.

This is a great resource that teaches the fundamentals of who Jesus is. Whether you are a new believer or want a refresher this is a great study. There are 15 chapters in this book, but it could easily be divided up into 8 weeks. (Questions would need to be both created & submitted to Amy AT LEAST 2 days prior to your small group).

These studies guide you through the storyline of Scripture-each following a person, place, or thing in the Bible. Maybe you are practiced in dissecting a passage and pulling things out of the text to apply to your life. But now you may feel as though your faith is fragmented. The Storyline Bible studies help you put the pieces back together.

Lysa TerKeurst and the Proverbs 31 ministry team have come together to write a Bible study that will show you how God’s promises fulfill our deepest longings. Take a journey through the storyline of the Bible in 40 days so you can see major themes, how they are all connected and what that means for us as we read the Bible today.

In 30 Days with Jesus: Experiencing His Presence Throughout the Old and New Testaments, authors Lysa TerKeurst and Dr. Joel Muddamalle will help you reframe your questions and doubts as opportunities to look for Jesus with greater intentionality throughout your day.

The Life You’ve Always Wanted offers modern perspectives on the ancient path of the spiritual disciplines. But it is more than just a book about things to do to be a good Christian. It’s a road map toward true transformation that starts not with the individual but with the person at the journey’s end–Jesus Christ.

The Stories of Women by Colleen Searcy is an 8-week inductive Bible study that explores the lives of women throughout Scripture—including Sarah and Hagar, Elizabeth and Mary, Anna, Tabitha, and others—to help participants better understand God’s character and His work through ordinary people. This study will help the participant discover how God sees, values, and invites women into His redemptive story.

This is an 8-week inductive Bible study that walks participants through Paul’s letters to the Colossians and Philemon, focusing on the supremacy of Christ, the transformation of the believer, and the practical implications of the gospel in everyday relationships.

James: The Steadfast Life – Jeremy and Kristin Schmucker

This inductive study explores what it looks like to follow Jesus with genuine, everyday faith. The study addresses topics such as perseverance through trials, wisdom, controlling the tongue, humility, prayer, and putting faith into action.

This inductive Bible study helps participants understand their identity in Christ and the incredible blessings God has given His people through the gospel. We’ll explore themes such as grace, salvation, unity in the church, spiritual growth, and living out God’s calling in everyday life.

This book traces the story of the Holy Spirit as it unfolds throughout the Bible, and invites you to close the gap between what Scripture reveals about the Holy Spirit and your lived experience.

This book reshapes discipleship. What does it mean to apprentice Jesus? If we truly are watching and following what Jesus did, then we will rearrange our days to follow the Way of Jesus. We will be with him. Become like him. And do as he did.

Using the imagery of Psalm 23 and focuses on the battle that takes place in our minds. Giglio explains how the enemy seeks to influence our thoughts with lies, fear, shame, anxiety, and discouragement, but that Jesus has invited us to sit at His table and experience His peace, truth, and presence. The book helps readers recognize unhealthy thought patterns, understand the spiritual nature of mental battles, and learn practical ways to replace lies with God’s truth.

Through biblical reflection and storytelling, Lucado highlights the depth of God’s love, grace, and sacrifice, helping readers see the personal significance of Christ’s death and what it reveals about God’s desire to redeem and restore His people

This book looks at characters like Esther, Ruth, Abigail, Hannah, and others.  We’ll explore how God often works through individuals who are flawed, fearful, overlooked, or facing difficult circumstances. Each chapter explores the biblical account while drawing practical lessons about faith, courage, obedience, forgiveness, and trusting God through life’s challenges.

This book explores how Jesus’ life & teachings transformed the way we should think about the inherent value of every person, the care for the poor and marginalized, compassion, humility, forgiveness, education, and the dignity of women and children. Jesus leads people toward a different way of living—one marked by love, service, courage, and self-giving. The reader will be challenged with the question of “What difference will Jesus make in my life?”

This adapts the principles behind the Twelve Steps into a Christ-centered framework for spiritual growth, healing, and transformation. Learn how lasting change comes through surrendering to God, embracing honesty, receiving grace, and living in authentic community. This study provides practical tools for overcoming struggles, breaking unhealthy patterns, and experiencing deeper spiritual and emotional growth through dependence on Jesus.

This book explores a series of personal interactions between Jesus and individuals throughout the Gospels, examining how Jesus met people from vastly different backgrounds—religious leaders, skeptics, outcasts, the morally broken, and the spiritually curious—and how each encounter revealed something unique about His identity and mission.

This book passionately defends the central role forgiveness has to play in our lives, and shows us how and why forgiveness is the only way forward in an imperfect world.  We will learn the steps to take in order to move on without sacrificing either justice or humanity.

Have you ever wondered what speaking in tongues is, whether it’s still for today, who can receive it, or how it should be practiced? This resource helps participants examine common questions about spiritual language, understand its purpose, and develop a biblically grounded perspective on the gift of tongues and the work of the Holy Spirit.

This book a practical Christian book designed to demystify prayer for everyone from skeptics to longtime believers. Learn how to “Keep it simple, keep it real, keep it up.”

This explores one of the most foundational questions of the Christian life: Who am I in Christ? This study helps participants move beyond finding their identity in performance, success, or the opinions of others and instead embrace their identity as beloved children of God.

SUNDAYS @Second!

Sundays are about growing in faith in Jesus. Students begin in the auditorium for worship and are released after about 20 minutes to head to our lower level. Here we connect with new friends and have a non-pressured faith conversation. The experience all together lasts about 65 minutes and we hope you leave encouraged and challenged in your spiritual journey.

The first Sunday of each month, students will stay in the auditorium for the message.

WEDNESDAYS @Second!

Wednesdays are the most exciting night of the week! Every week a powerful and relevant message from scripture is preached, and students are given a chance to respond to the nights message.  Wednesdays alternate between small group nights (where students and volunteers connect by playing, learning and praying together) and worship nights (where our student led band, EMBERS, lead songs of worship and praise to Jesus).

Our messages are based out of the Bible, which we believe to be God-breathed and useful for our lives today. On Wednesday nights, we learn from engaging teaching, worship with our student team, take time to pray together or individually, and reflect on how we can become closer with our God. If you have never come, we encourage you to check it out!

My name is Steven Nichols and I am the Youth Director at Calvary Assembly! I am absolutely thrilled to be in this position and to be given the chance to work with your children and help lead them to all that God has planned for them.

I live in a neighborhood in Gates where my wife, Moriah, and I purchased our first home. When I am not actively involved in our youth  ministry, I throughly enjoy reading and training in martial arts. Moriah is an extremely gifted vocalist and piano player and can make any song sound like a billboard hit. I cannot. When we go out on dates together we both enjoy exploring the surrounding area looking for a restaurant we have not tried yet, searching for the best food our city has to offer. But for us, the best day is a simple and quiet one.

Although I am still working full time as an electrician for my father’s company, I want you to know I am available for you, for your son or daughter, and to help encourage our students towards the unique calling God has for their life! Don’t hesitate to email, call, or text me. I am looking forward to getting to know you!

Come as you are. You don’t have to dress up or pretend like you have it all together. We will meet for 65 minutes and in that time we will sing some songs about God’s love, have an engaging teaching that will encourage and challenge you, and participate in prayer that inspires you.

A lot of our lives is spent doing the SAME things. After all, we have reoccurring responsibilities. Faithfulness is the term the Bible uses for this.

There comes a time when we are called to do the NEXT thing. This
is not a call to stop doing the regular things. Rather, it is a reminder that we don’t have to be limited by them. In fact, the
NEXT thing is possible because of faithfulness. You have faithfully prayed, served, and given generously. As a result our current facility is used three times on Sunday (and throughout the week) to connect people to - and help people grow in - God’s grace.

Every week we hear stories of people daring to hope again, finding freedom, and feeling loved and accepted. And if this was all God accomplished through us, we would be glad and grateful.

But with God there is always a NEXT. There are still individuals and families who have not been exposed to the grace of God. There are still people who have disconnected from faith and have not yet found their way back home. Since God is not done with them, He is not done with us.

Our mission is to provide a safe place for people to find authentic faith, risk real relationships and discover the future God has planned for them.

Our problem - we can’t provide a safe place if we are out of space.

Beginning on the first Sunday in October our church family will begin to take the NEXT step. We cannot do this alone. The faith and finances necessary for a project of this size will require each and every person to dare to pray bold prayers and boldly respond to God’s direction.

NEXT reminds us of God’s unfailing love and unwavering effort to reach each and every one.

NEXT reminds us that our dreams can be brighter than our memories.NEXT reminds us that the best is yet to come.
